Ballistic Impact on Ceramic/aramid Armour Systems

ثبت نشده
چکیده

The ballistic performance of the lightweight armour systems was examined to obtain an estimate for the V50 and the global damage of the composite plates. All estimates were performed by varying the thickness of ceramic tiles, while maintaining equal areal density of the system. Simulation predictions and trial results is demonstrated both in terms of deformation and damage of the laminates and ballistic performance.

Ballistic Testing and Simulation of Co-continuous Ceramic Composite for Body Armour

Co-Continuous Ceramic Composites, referred to as C4, have bi-continuous, interconnected and interpenetrating phases of a metal and ceramic. This bestows such composites with a higher strength to weight ratio compared with traditional composites. In this research work, a C4 composite of AA5083/SiC is fabricated for personal body armour, using gravity infiltration technique. A numerical simulatio...

Implementation and Validation of the Johnson-Holmquist Ceramic Material Model i

Ceramic materials are commonly used in protective armour applications and may be subject to high-energy ballistic impacts in these situations. Under simple loading conditions, ceramics may be regarded as elastic-brittle materials. However, when considering ballistic impacts, the post-yield response of the ceramic becomes significant. One of the most widely used constitutive models for simulatin...

Ballistic Performance of Hybrid Armor with Ceramic Inserts and Polymeric Matrix for Different Threat Levels (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Ceramic materials due to their high compressive strength and hardness have been one of prime candidates in armor design in particular when high level threads (impact velocity above 600m/s) are involved. The aim of this work is to investigate ballistic impact resistance potential for a target plate with novel ceramic inserts as against ceramic tiles. Two size 98% alumina (AL2O3) base ceramic i...

Quasi-static penetration and ballistic properties of kenaf-aramid hybrid composites

In this research, quasi-static penetration and ballistic properties of non-woven kenaf fibres/Kevlar epoxy hybrid laminates with thicknesses ranging from 3.1 mm to 10.8 mm by hard projectile at normal incidence have been experimentally investigated. Hybrid composites were fabricated by hand lay-up technique in a mould and cured at room temperature for 24 h by static load. Hybrid composites cons...

Development of adaptive bust for female soft body armour using three dimensional (3D) warp interlock fabrics: Three dimensional (3D) design process

The traditional two dimensional (2D) pattern making method for developing female body armour has a negative effect on the ballistic protective performance as well as the comfort of the wearer. This is due to, unlike the male body armour, the female body armour manufacturing involves different darts to accommodate the natural curvature of the female body, i.e. bust area, which will reveals the w...
